Hiding in Southern Spain are tens of thousands of migrants, exploited to grow salad vegetables for British supermarkets. Living in squalor, the workers are subjected to horrendous conditions. “We live like animals scavenging. No work, no money, no food”, says one field worker. The situation is so desperate the Red Cross has been handing out aid to thousands of them. Anti-Slavery director Aiden McQuade labelled the evidence in this report, “deeply disturbing”, saying, “we could be seeing the emergence of a new form of slavery in 21st Century Europe”.
