Martin Luther formulated his famous reform theses in the eastern Germany city of Wittenberg in 1517. But hardly more than 10 per cent of Wittenberg residents consider themselves Christian today. During the Communist era, the region became the center of East Germany’s chemical industry. And Luther’s town was almost renamed “The City of Chemicals”.
