In Compton, one of Los Angeles’ roughest neighbourhoods, a game of cricket is the last thing you would expect to see. Yet some young gang members are hanging up their guns and playing by the rules.

“Cricket caught me at that breaking point”, says Isaac Hayes, member of the Compton Cricket Club. He was thrown out of school and his mother was told that he was going to be dead by the age of 21. “Cricket helped me see the world. Something just clicked and I realised, damn, I want to live.”
